Project Description

Compelling need for the project
The growing population in the region and ongoing compliance with regulations, requires regular upgrades to the hospital facility.

Business value created for the client
Construction of this project was carried out within an operational hospital Emergency Department. This had the potential to impact significantly on clinical service delivery, including upgrades to the main Communications Room and electrical switchboards.

Working closely with senior clinicians and hospital management, Wiley coordinated the delivery of the project around the Hospital’s activities. This close collaboration was vital to minimise delays to the provision of clinical service delivery. These services are critical to the wellbeing of the local community and include access for ambulance traffic, Emergency Department and the helipad.

One of the key concerns of the hospital was dust mitigation from the earthworks. Early in the tender stage, Wiley proposed extensive dust mitigation strategies, several of which WBHHS utilised during delivery.

The rooftop helipad will provide direct and timely patient transfer to the operating theatres, Intensive Care Unit and the future Emergency Department.

The challenging scope Wiley delivered
Wiley was engaged as head contractor on Stage 1 of the project, including:

  • A 1,000m² helipad
  • Ambulance bay structure
  • Major rock excavation, new roadway construction and car parking
  • Changes to some internal access points
  • This project illustrates Wiley’s ability to deliver in high-hygiene, operational and public environments, through in-depth experience and close collaboration with the client.
